  Services Available at Our Perinatal Centers
  • Genetic Counseling
    Certified counselors in genetics are available to discuss services to individuals and families seeking information about the risk of occurrence, of a genetic condition or birth defect in their unborn child.
     
  • Prenatal diagnosis
    • First trimester screening
      A blood test and special measurement of your baby that shows if you are at increased risk of having a baby with Down syndrome.
    • Targeted (level II ) ultrasound
      An ultrasound performed by a specialist in maternal fetal medicine using high resolution ultrasound to obtain detailed pictures of your baby.
    • Fetal echocardiography
      Detailed ultrasound of the baby's heart.
    • 4-D (four dimensional) Ultrasound
      A three dimensional ultrasound performed live (the fourth dimension being time). 4-D ultrasound may be used to obtain detailed pictures of your baby's facial features or other structures that are not easily seen with conventional "2-D" ultrasound.
    • Chorionic villus sampling (CVS)
    • Genetic amniocentesis
    • Amniocentesis for evaluation of fetal lung maturity
    • Antenatal testing
      Also known as nonstress testing (NST) monitors your baby's heart rate to functioning of the placenta.
    • Biophysical profile BPP.
     
  • Perinatology Consultation
    Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists (perinatologists) have received four years of residency training in obstetrics and gynecology.  In addition they have received further training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the fetus, and in the advanced care of very high-risk pregnancies

    In consultation with your obstetrician our maternal-fetal medicine specialists can help to optimize care for both you and your baby.

 What are Perinatal Centers?
  • Perinatal centers are staffed with specialists in maternal-fetal medicine who work together with your obstetrician to provide expert attention and monitoring during pregnancies complicated by conditions such as pre-eclampsia, diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), lupus, asthma, heart disease, and kidney diseases.
     
 Who Benefits from Evaluation at the Perinatal Center?
  • Patients with medical problems such as high blood pressure , diabetes, heart disease, lupus, or kidney disease.
  • Patient with a poor obstetrical history.
  • Women 35 years of age or older.
  • Couples who have had a child with a birth defect or a genetic disorder.
  • Women who have an abnormal Expanded AFP test
  • Women who have had an abnormal ultrasound
  • Women with a fetus that is not growing properly
  • Women with too little or too much amniotic fluid
  • Women with bleeding during their pregnancy
  • Women with twins, triplets, and beyond
  • Women who develop preeclampsia (toxemia) or diabetes during their pregnancy
  • Women with Rh sensitization or other blood antibodies
